Gombak, 6 March 2025 – The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has reinforced its commitment to alumni engagement through a strategic dialogue between the university’s leadership and alumni chapter presidents, wings, clubs, and associations. The session, hosted by the Alumni Relations Division (ARD), was chaired by the Honourable IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar, with the participation of Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohamad Fauzan Noordin, Deputy Rector (Student Development & Community Engagement), and moderated by En. Ilmyzat Ismail, Director of ARD.

The hybrid event, held both in-person and online, brought together 19 alumni leaders, including representatives from international chapters, to foster meaningful dialogue and strengthen collaborations between the university and its graduates. The discussions centered on enhancing alumni-university relations and exploring partnerships to support IIUM’s global outreach and academic development.

In his address, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar reaffirmed IIUM’s commitment to Tawhidic Epistemology, which underpins the university’s vision and mission of achieving ummatic excellence. He emphasized the crucial role of alumni in advancing IIUM’s global influence. He also urged for the alumni groups to unite and uphold the idea of becoming Ummatic Alumni. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Fauzan Noordin further highlighted the concept of ‘Ummatic Inclusive Alumni,’ encouraging alumni to contribute towards IIUM’s international network and societal impact.

The engagement session received positive feedback, with participants acknowledging its significance in reinforcing alumni ties and fostering a stronger connection with their alma mater. Notable attendees included alumni leaders from Bangladesh, Türkiye, Indonesia, and various professional and interest-based alumni wings such as the IIUM ROTU Army Alumni, IIUM Stallions – Rugby Alumni, and the KENMS Alumni Wing, among others.

During the session, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar announced two upcoming major alumni events. The first, an ASEAN Alumni Celebration on 18 July 2025, will commemorate ASEAN Day and feature Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The second, the Alumni Ummatic Homecoming Dinner on 27 August 2025, will unite alumni from across the world and will be graced by the presence of Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj.

IIUM encourages its alumni, both locally and internationally, to participate in these events, strengthening their lifelong connection with the university while contributing to its mission of educational excellence and global impact. The engagement session marks a significant step towards deeper collaboration between IIUM and its alumni network, paving the way for future initiatives that align with the university’s long-term development goals.
